ASAE Foundation, Green Seal, Whiteford, Taylor & Preston Launching New Office Greening Program

Date: June 24, 2014

Washington -- The ASAE Foundation is collaborating with Green Seal and Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP to pilot an innovative Association Office Greening Program that will award up to 15 grants for workplace sustainability reviews. Applications are due August 15. The program is spearheaded and funded by a $25,000 grant from the law firm Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP.

“This generous and timely grants program aims to trigger a wider movement among associations to adopt environmentally sound office policies and procedures, so employees can work in healthy, eco-friendly environments,” said ASAE Executive Vice President and ASAE Foundation President & CEO Susan Robertson, CAE.

ASAE member associations of any size in the Washington, DC area are eligible to apply. The onsite visit and resulting report of recommendations for each winning organization will be executed by Green Seal, an environmental nonprofit that sets environmental leadership standards for products and services.

“We believe that associations with greener offices and enhanced awareness of employees about recycling will benefit in several ways including: improved compliance with applicable laws and best practices, better alignment with evolving member expectations toward socially responsible operations, and also help the planet,” added Jeff Glassie, FSAE, partner at Whiteford, Taylor, and Preston and co-chair of its Nonprofit Organizations and Associations practice.

A review team of representatives from Green Seal, ASAE and Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP will vet the applications and select up to 15 winning organizations using criteria developed by Green Seal.

“Many professionals have adopted environmentally responsible practices at home already, from curb-side recycling to use of energy-efficient lights,” says Green Seal President/CEO Arthur Weissman, Ph.D. “It makes sense that they would value employers that actively seek to reduce their associations’ impacts on the environment.”
