Kevin C. McCormick to Present at the National Advanced Employment Issues Symposium

Date: September 24, 2008

Baltimore - Kevin C. McCormick, a partner and co-chair of Whiteford, Taylor & Preston's Labor and Employment section, will have an important role in the 13th annual Advanced Employment Issues Symposium (AEIS) which will take place in Las Vegas (September 25-26) and be repeated in Nashville (October 16-17). McCormick will be a presenter in the breakout session titled, "Traps for the Unwary Employer: Protected Concerted Activity Even When No Union Is Around." In the session, he will present on what is included in employees' right to engage in protected concerted activities, how those protections play out with regard to certain concerted activities, and what kinds of penalties employers might face if the National Labor Rights Board (NLRB) prosecutes an unfair labor practice.

McCormick, editor of the Maryland Employment Law Letter published by M. Lee Smith, focuses his legal practice exclusively on employee relations, and his clients include employers from all industries. He provides advice and counsel to public and private employers, including health care providers, on all phases of the employment relationship to ensure compliance with applicable laws, avoid costly litigation, and, when necessary, successfully defend against individual and/or governmental challenges to those employment policies and procedures. In addition, he has successfully represented public and private employers and health care providers against discrimination and employment-related claims before federal, state and local FEP agencies, and at trial (both jury and non-jury) in state and federal courts and respective courts of appeal throughout mid-Atlantic region. In addition to his extensive pro bono work, McCormick is also a member of the Board of Directors of Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland.
