Date: March 16, 2012

Washington, DC.  Whiteford Taylor & Preston announced today that Erek L. Barron has joined the firm's Litigation practice in the firm's new Bethesda office.

Mr. Barron, who is Counsel to the firm, commented, “I'm excited about the opportunity the firm offers to expand my practice, offer my clients a wide array of services, and work with prominent attorneys such as my friend and mentor Harry Johnson.”

“We are very pleased to welcome Erek to our litigation practice,” noted Martin Fletcher, the firm's managing partner.  “In addition to his broad civil litigation and Capitol Hill experience, Erek adds strength to our White Collar Crime practice.”

In private practice, Mr. Barron has represented individuals and businesses in all aspects of civil and criminal litigation, including trials and appeals in state and federal courts. His criminal practice includes white collar crime and his civil practice includes contract disputes, torts and real estate.

Prior to entering private practice, he had a distinguished career in state, federal and Congressional positions.  He began as an Assistant State's Attorney for Prince George's County and Baltimore City, before moving to the Department of Justice's Criminal Division.  Subsequently, he worked as Counsel and Policy Advisor to then-Senator Joseph Biden, Jr., where he managed the Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs and the International Narcotics Control Caucus.

After the election of 2008, when Sen. Biden left the Senate to become Vice-President, Mr. Barron worked on law enforcement issues for the Presidential Transition Team.

He received his LL.M. in International Law and National Security from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2007; his J. D. from the George Washington University Law School in 1999; and his B.A. from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1996.  He is admitted to the Maryland and District of Columbia bars.
