Date: October 27, 2006

October 27, 2006 – Baltimore – The ARC of Baltimore, in partnership with the Baltimore Business Journal, has selected Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP (WTP) as an Employer of Distinction.  This inaugural award honors companies who have clearly demonstrated that employing individuals with developmental disabilities has contributed to their company’s success.

WTP and five other employers were honored at an Employers of Distinction Recognition Breakfast on October 19.  “This is a great honor for our firm.  Hiring from ARC’s workforce program has been a ‘win-win’ situation for us in terms of gaining dependable, hard-working employees.  In fact, one of our ARC employees has been on staff for over 20 years,” noted Managing Partner Albert J. Mezzanotte, Jr.

“Our firm believes in creating a diverse working environment,” explained Barbara Wilson, WTP’s director of Human Resources.  “Hiring people with developmental disabilities is a great way for us to enrich our workplace while giving opportunities to individuals who have a lot to offer as employees.”

The Arc of Baltimore is one of the nation's largest agencies addressing the needs of people with mental retardation.
