Whiteford Named "Diversity Law Firm of the Year"

Date: March 3, 2013

Baltimore, MD -- Whiteford Taylor & Preston LLP is honored to announce that, on March 1, 2013, the firm was named the “Diversity Firm of the Year” by the Black Law Students Association at the University of Maryland School of Law.

This award is presented to a single law firm in the greater Baltimore area that promotes the recruitment and retention of minority attorneys. Specifically recognized was WTP’s first-year law student summer program initiative which provides students with exposure to committed mentorship, networking and professional experience. The program emphasizes the diversity of the students selected and is being expanded in 2013 to the firm's Washington office.

The award ceremony, the 38th Annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet, was attended by judges, business leaders, prominent attorneys and law students. The evening honored the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Warren Weaver, a WTP partner from the Baltimore office, accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

Martin Fletcher, the firm's managing partner, commented, "This recognition is a wonderful accolade for the firm and our continuing diversity and inclusion initiatives. A sincere thank you is due to our WTP Inclusion Committee for all of their efforts and to the entire firm for its ongoing commitment to creating and fostering a diverse and inclusive WTP."
