About the Seminar: As China and Asia continue to deliver the phenomenal growth unleashed over 30 years ago, Hong Kong maintains its position as the leading platform for global companies managing business operations in the Asia Pacific region. Over 3,800 overseas and Mainland Chinese companies have opened offices in Hong Kong. Mr. Rowse will address emerging opportunities for US companies, taking advantage of Hong Kong’s unique business and geographical assets as well as its unrivaled role in helping companies deal with challenges in the China market. He will offer insights on the rule of law in Hong Kong with particular emphasis on the protection of intellectual property; provide an update on the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA); and, describe the potential economic benefits of the Pan Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation initiative for companies doing business through Hong Kong.
About Mike Rowse: Mike Rowse has lived in Hong Kong since 1972. He joined the Hong Kong government in 1980 and was appointed as the first Commissioner for Tourism in May 1999. In that capacity, he led the negotiations with the Walt Disney Company, which resulted in the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland in September 2005. In July 2000, he was appointed as Hong Kong’s first Director-General of Investment Promotion. In that capacity, he established the government’s investment promotion agency –Invest Hong Kong. In August 2001, he became the first expatriate civil servant in Hong Kong’s history to naturalize as a Chinese National.
