Date: July 27, 2009

Washington, DC - Whiteford, Taylor & Preston (WTP) announced today that Raymond B. Via, Jr., has joined the firm's Community Associations practice as a partner in the Washington, D.C., office.

"It's a pleasure to welcome Ray to the firm," noted Andrew J. Terrell, head of the firm's D.C. and Virginia offices. "The addition of Ray to our team further solidifies our position as the dominant Community Associations practice in the mid-Atlantic. Collectively, we represent over 250 Community Associations."

Mr. Via commented, "Adding my practice to Whiteford's makes tremendous sense. Together we have the critical mass and broad range of expertise to serve any legal need a Community Association could have."

Mr. Via comes to the firm from Linowes and Blocher LLP, where he was a partner. He has over ten years' experience representing condominium and homeowners' associations in the region, both developer- and homeowner-controlled. In addition to providing sage advice on business and management issues, Mr. Via has represented associations in court, at both the trial and appellate levels. He is actively involved in legislative and policy issues concerning community associations, both at the national level as a member of the national public policy committee of the Community Association Institute and locally as a delegate to the Maryland Legislative Action Committee.

A 1982 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, he is admitted to the District of Columbia and Maryland bars. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Chapter of the Community Association Institute and a past president of the Board of Directors of the Chesapeake Chapter of the Community Association Institute.

Via is the seventh new attorney to join the firm's D.C. and Northern Virginia offices since January 1st. Martin Fletcher, the firm's Managing Partner, commented, "Ray is a great addition to our expanding metropolitan Washington practice. He brings tremendous experience and talents that will help our clients greatly."
